Angela Peterson
Researcher
Born in England early in WWII, in 1950 Angela accompanied her parents, at their insistence, to Rhodesia - now Zimbabwe - where she spent fifteen years, and then came to the US with her husband and family in 1965. She received a rigorous English-style education, finishing up with a BA in Latin and British and European History at what was then the University College of Rhodesia & Nyasaland, an external campus of the University of London. In all she studied Latin for eleven years.
Angela's interest in genealogy began at age six in England when she made frequent visits with a friend to the local cemetery to visit their ‘rellies’, and it was fixed forever at her first glimpse of the Family Bible. She has worked on genealogy for thirty-five years, while raising a family of seven children and now being the proud grandmother of twenty-six. While living in Seattle she helped run a Family History Center in Bellevue, WA for ten years and went on to help establish a new Family History Center in Kirkland, WA. During that time she also worked for eight years as a ‘field missionary’ for the Medieval Families Unit of the LDS Church. She moved to Utah in 1996 where she immediately began working as a Professional Genealogist, achieving Accreditation credentials in 1997 in English research through ICAPGen. She is currently also a part-time missionary at the Salt Lake Family History Library on the British floor and likes nothing better than to help anyone find their ancestors, being known on occasion to get very, very excited over their success!
Over the years she has also gained extensive experience in records of the British in India, French Huguenot research in Switzerland, the Netherlands and Dutch Indonesia, anything French, as well as having worked on South African research and the Western United States. Her personal specialties are English research, wills, deciphering old handwriting, resolving knotty problems and pursuing an ongoing learning process.
