“Uniting”

This year RootsTech will be both in person and virtual. The in-person event will be held at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City and has a fee but the virtual portion is free. The link to register for both is at RootsTech2023.

What is Roots Tech?

For those who may not know what RootsTech is, it is an annual family history and technology conference presented by FamilySearch, which is a nonprofit genealogy organization operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This year the theme is “Uniting.” The FamilySearch CEO, Steven Rockwood reported in an October 6, 2022 news release that “families are the foundation of society. Connecting and uniting families across generations strengthens individuals and nations alike. We are amazed and gratified to see the role RootsTech has been able to play in helping literally millions of individuals connect with their family, past, present and future.” (As quoted in The Church News 7 February 2023).

What to Expect at RootsTech in person

The hours for the in-person event are 8:00 am – 5:30 Thursday and Friday and 8:00 am to 3 pm on Saturday. General sessions will be held each day at 11 am and include speakers such as Jordin Sparks, Me Ra Koh, Sean Aston and Elder Gerrit Gong and his wife, Susan.  Jordin Sparks was a winner of “American Idol” and is a multiplatinum recording artist and actress. Me Ra Koh and her husband are known for their photography. Sean Astin is an actor particularly known for his role in “The Lord of the Rings.”  The emcee will be Kirby Heyborne who is known for comedy acting as well as a series known as “Making Good.” Elder Gong is a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It will be very enjoyable to hear from all of these speakers.

There will be more than 180 in-person class sessions to choose from and the expo hall will include more than 200 exhibitors with hands-on learning activities and many experts to answer questions.

What to Expect at RootsTech online

The free online event includes more than 200 new on-demand class sessions and classes as well as the ability to view the main stage presentations and keynote speakers.  A virtual tour of the Expo Hall will also be available.  This will be valuable to everyone, but especially to those not able to attend in person.

Don’t Miss

Be sure to take advantage of connections with cousins using Relatives at RootsTech. In addition, see if you can find famous relatives.

Look for Us

We will be at both events. Look for us at the live event at Booth 330 in the Exhibition Hall. At the virtual event we are among the vendors as Price Genealogy.

The last time RootsTech was live was just prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. We had a wonderful time that year and hope to again this year.

We hope you can attend RootsTech in person or virtually. You will be very glad you did!  If you come in person, please stop by and visit with us.
